S. Balachander (Sundaram Balachander, 18 January 1927 – 13 April 1990) was a renowned Indian veena virtuoso, acclaimed filmmaker, and musicologist. He was celebrated for his self-taught mastery of the veena, becoming one of southern India\\\'s foremost exponents of the instrument. Instrument: Veena (South Indian lute) Style: Known for his purist approach to Carnatic music and technical brilliance, Balachander was a child prodigy who taught himself to play the veena.
