Pandit Shyamal Bose was a renowned tabla virtuoso from Kolkata. Background: Born July 17, 1934, into Kolkata’s prominent Bose musical family; father Pandit Anath Nath Bose was a celebrated vocalist and tabla player. Training: Studied tabla under Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh (Farukhabad gharana), inheriting a blend of Benares and Punjab gharana influences via his father’s training. All India Radio (AIR) Kolkata: Served as a staff artist and preferred accompanist for decades. Global Outreach: Toured extensively in India and abroad, leading musician delegations. Teaching: Mentored disciples at Sangeet Research Academy (Kolkata) post-retirement, despite a paralytic attack impairing his left hand.
