Maharaja Duleep Singh was the last ruler of the Sikh Empire, reigning from 1843 to 1849. Born in 1838, he became king at a young age after the death of his father, Maharaja Ranjit Singh. His reign was marked by the British annexation of the Sikh Empire following the Second Anglo-Sikh War.As a child, Duleep Singh was influenced by British officials, and he was eventually taken to England, where he was educated and converted to Christianity. His life is often seen as a tragic tale of lost sovereignty and cultural identity. Duleep Singh later sought to reclaim his throne and promote Sikh rights, but he was largely seen as a pawn in British political strategies. He remains a significant figure in Sikh history, representing the empire's decline and the broader struggle for identity in colonial India.
